Last Fall my two teen girls and I flew to New York city and enjoyed some girl time. While in New York City we had the opportunity to visit the famous Serendipity 3 restaurant. One of the many famous menu items is their frozen hot chocolate. I recently came across the supposed famous recipe on line and thought you might enjoy it as well.
Serendipity Frozen Hot Chocolate Recipe

Frozen hot chocolate may sound like a contradiction, but The New York restaurant Serendipity 3 made frozen hot chocolate an institution. This is the original Serendipity frozen hot chocolate recipe, but I’ve tweaked the method a bit to make it easier for kids to make all by themselves.
With my version, you don’t have to melt the chocolate on the stove. And you can even use chocolate chips if you don’t want to chop the chocolate yourself.
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
- 6 oz. chopped semisweet chocolate (or chocolate chips)
- 3 cups whole milk, divided
- 1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. your favorite powdered hot chocolate mix
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 6 cups ice cubes
- whipped cream for garnish
Preparation:
- Place chopped chocolate and 1/4 cup of the milk in a microwave-safe container. Heat on 50% power for 1 minute. Stir.
- Heat on 50% power for 30 seconds. Stir. If necessary, continue heating in 30-second increments until chocolate is melted.
- Add hot chocolate mix and sugar. Stir.
- Slowly pour in 1/2 cup of the milk. Stir, and let cool to room temperature.
- Pour cooled chocolate mixture into blender. Add remaining milk and ice cubes. Puree until smooth.
- Top with whipped cream and serve immediately.
Makes 2 giant frozen hot chocolates.

I made these tonight and they are awesome! I am diabetic so I did use splenda instead of sugar, sugar free hot chocolate mix and sugar free whip topping. I added double the hot chocolate mix and only used 1/2 of the milk chocolate chips. Tastes great with less sugar! Thanks!

Jessica has a great idea, maybe with 1/2 dark and 1/2 milk chocolate. I will try it first with the semi sweet then decide after that.

I just made this ——— my goodness it makes a lot. We have an antique blender and it wouldn’t even hold 4 cups of cubes, so I put half the mix in a bowl and added another 2 cups. That filled it again……………It really made a ton, so we put the rest in the freezer and we’ll see what happens. I am thinking that more modern blenders have MUCH bigger containers!!! It is awfully darn good, though.

Good, but too much ice. Reduce it by like a cup and it will be fine.

I want to express appreciation to you just for rescuing me from this problem. Right after browsing through the online world and obtaining opinions which were not beneficial, I believed my entire life was done. Living devoid of the approaches to the problems you have resolved by means of your good write-up is a critical case, and the ones that would have badly damaged my career if I hadn’t encountered your site. Your good capability and kindness in dealing with all the stuff was helpful. I am not sure what I would have done if I hadn’t come upon such a subject like this. I can at this time look forward to my future. Thank you so much for your high quality and effective guide. I will not think twice to recommend the blog to any individual who would need guidance on this situation.
